Hi, I'm Adele. I'm a Mormon.

So has a new program where you can make a profile that others can see. One of the questions is Why I am a Mormon. This is my reply:

I am a Mormon because I love the Lord, and I can feel His Spirit when I live the way He wants me to.

The only reason I am even alive is because He has given me the chance to come to Earth and be tested for this short time. I want to live in a way that will enable me to return and live with Him again once it is over.

Nothing else matters.

I feel the truth of the gospel principles every day of my life as I live them. They make me happy :)

Extra Credit

You remember the nerd in your class who always had to do the extra credit? Well, sadly, that's my son Bennett. At his 4-month appointment this week, he measured 100 plus % for height and weight. What does that even mean? Is he the tallest, fattest baby on the planet?

He looks normal to me (jr was a fatty too and now he's normal, and even thin for his age), but other people tell me he's the fattest baby they've ever seen. "But don't worry," they reassure me hurriedly. "I like chubby babies."

I'm not worried. There's just more baby for me to kiss, that's all.

so one day I woke up and realized that

I couldn't stand my kitchen towels. they were old and dingy, and made my whole kitchen look old and dingy when they were littered across the counters.

I began to search for new ones.... we spent date night going from store to store to store (yes, I have an amazing husband) and couldn't find anything cute or unique. online wasn't much better.
finally, I decided on these
that I found on amazon:

and these
to match:

then, we spent an evening at Color Me Mine in Provo so that we could have some dishes to match my new towels! it's a cool place-- you paint ceramics and then they fire them for you. it's super fun and a great idea for a date!

Gangsta's Paradise

bennett started out innocent enough. they all do.

but he soon decided on a more gangsta hairstyle.

his older brother had discovered the power of gangsta bangs with the ladies long ago...

which is precisely why we had to take care of the situation before it was too late with our second child.

you may be wondering how he can be so cheerful at a time like this, with the tragic loss of his lovely gangsta locks.

well, that's because we left him a little party in the back.

I can't wait for our next roadtrip to California.

1. jr. throws up 5 times in 24 hours. all over our kind cousin's house.
2. our cousin (who is pregnant) and two of her children get what jr. has.
3. driving over Donner Pass on our way back home, they make us exit the freeway and buy snow chains for our tires. it's MAY. and we HAVE chains, but we left them at home in Utah.
4. the chains cost $70.
5. Josh is wearing flip-flops and a t-shirt in the snow, trying to put the chains on. (I loan him my sweater, just to be nice.) they give us the wrong size chains, so he has to go back and return them, then start all over again. we drive with the chains on for maybe 15 minutes.

7. jr. pukes in the car.
8. we spend at least the last half hour of the car ride with the babies alternating screaming (and I mean really screaming. jr. does nothing half-heartedly.), and of course there is construction before the Provo exit.

1. bennett gets to meet Bennett (his great grandfather, whose health has not been good lately).

2. bennett gets to spend Mother's Day with his great grandmother.
3. we get to spend time with lots of loved ones.
4. it was totally worth it.

(but if we got you sick, I'm so sorry.

can you see the rainbow in the distance?

A word of warning for the lazy mom

Although it is tempting to neglect your baby, there are some potential negative consequences. If a bouncy seat looks convenient (such as the one below), don't be fooled. Even if it saves you having to hold your baby and play with him all the time for the short term (or maybe keeps him from getting stepped on while you run after his older brother), it will cost you a lot more work later. Trust me on this one.

Because the chair encourages the baby to stay in one position for a long time, if the baby starts favoring one side of his head, he could develop torticollus (tight neck muscles that keep the head turned in one direction) and plagiocephaly (a flat head). He might even have to wear one of these:

But even if he doesn't need the helmet, he will need to go through extensive physical therapy sessions, as well as rigorous exercise regimes three times a day. There might very well be six different stretches that force you to play with your baby, keep him happy, make him laugh, sing to him, and spend way more time with him than you normally would, all while stretching him. For the lazy parent, this might be quite frustrating. How can you Facebook and blog (or maybe even clean a dish or two) if you have to spend quality time with your kids? Life is tough.

Another potential drawback of said condition is that you should really avoid putting your baby on his back unless he is sleeping. This is inconvenient. Since tummy time gets old fast for your baby if he is left on the floor by himself, you will probably have to spend that tummy time playing with him and keeping him happy as well. You may even, as a result, be forced to bond with him and get to know him in ways you wouldn't have bothered with before.

And finally, you will need to fork out the cash to buy a Bumbo chair for whenever you really can get away with neglecting him (or maybe when you have to feed his older brother or finish the laundry. not that that would ever happen). Don't be fooled by the Bumbo, though. It strengthens his neck muscles, but you still have to keep an eye on your baby so that he doesn't fall out.

Moral of the story is:

Forget the bouncy chair. In the long run, it will cost you more time and money than it's worth. And it will force you to spend many wonderful hours getting to know your baby and falling more and more in love with his adorable smile.
