This makes me very angry.

Have you listened to popular music lately? Any Katy Perry or the likes? It's pretty catchy, right?

Well, that's the problem. It's super catchy. It's fun. Draws you in, makes you want to dance, makes you want to be carefree. And then tells you things on an album entitled Teenage Dream like, "Let's go all the way tonight, no regrets, just love" or brags that "I kissed a girl and I liked it." Or has a beautiful song like "Firework" with a music video that features two boys kissing. I could go on, but I don't really enjoy putting obscene things on my blog.

This is the music that is everywhere these days, everyone hears it, it's exploding in your ears. Katy Perry was even on Sesame Street in a princess dress, chasing Elmo around. If you were a kid, or a teenager, how hard would it be to stay virtuous with these messages being hurled at you? How would you escape them?

Katy Perry and Lady Gaga and so many more singers are targeting teenagers and TRYING to make them mess up.

It's disgusting. Leave my kids alone.

P.S. I just have to say that when Scotty McCreery was on American Idol, I couldn't believe people ever voted for his music. BUT the faces he made when Lady Gaga tried to talk dirty were priceless. Way to go, Scotty. Your music is awful, but you stand up for what you believe in. Now let's get some talented people with morals, and then we'll have a good thing.

I know just what you mean. I've never heard anything from Katy Perry that didn't make me sad. Just terrible messages.

But what's more important is that my husband and I too agree that your kids are SUPER ADORABLE!

I think S otto is awesome! Hehe. But yeah I have been sucked into the Lafy CaCa and Katy Scary a few times. It's not an easy thing to tune out! Lol

Its so nice that I can mostly control what music my LittleOne gets to hear right now.... but come in a little bit. Ah! I've already got her sucked into the Broadway & Disney musical world. (Not that that doesn't mean she has to be careful. Yikes even that world is extremely contaminated. Just not with the same people.)

Another case for the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be taught to EVERYONE. The evil may be strong, but the "good news" will always be stronger. And I don't think my grandchildren could have more careful, conscientious parents and unseen protection. I am optimistic! Everything will be alright. Hang in there.

I agree with everything you said. When you stop and listen to the lyrics it is horrible what is being thrown our way. What a sad life to live; one filled with immorality and untruths. Thank goodness for the gospel and the light it brings!

Yeah, I would love to think my kids won't hear the music, but twice already joshy has found Katy Perry on Grooveshark of all places and played that Teenage Dream song!

I totally agree with you!! Just a few weeks ago I was at an event for families/children... there was a dj there, playing mostly upbeat family-friendly stuff... then he played Rihanna's song S&M which is just absolute FILTH. I was shocked. Parenting today is just a challenge I think. Since you and I both have two boys I bet you might worry about the pornography issue too.... which is a different discussion, but geez, it's going to be an interesting challenge to navigate our kids through these muddy waters!

Totally agree! Their music and image makes me sick.

Not but really. The inundation of the 'experimentation is cool' theme seems to get worse every year. What will 10 more years bring?

Good thing there are good artists too, right? And hopefully our kids will follow our trend of liking the music their parents like as well.
